Nationwide

National Pharmacy Retailer

Irrigation retrofits slashed water expenses, covering the cost of the improvements in less than two years.

Value Delivered

USM designed and implemented a program to retrofit existing irrigation systems at 200 locations for a national pharmacy retailer. The water conservation improvements exceeded the client’s operational, fiscal, and environmental objectives.

While actual results at each location varied based on climatic and other conditions, on average our work helped the client realize savings of:

  • Twenty percent on water use
  • Five million gallons of water
  • Twenty-three percent cost savings
  • Return on investment of 12 to 24 months

Client Objectives

The client wanted to reduce water consumption, save on operational costs, and promote their sustainability goals.

Solutions

Our team developed a robust conservation program, featuring:

  • Spray nozzles with uniform, multi-stream rotating technology to provide consistent watering, even in windy conditions
  • Controllers that adjust each system to match local weather conditions
  • Sensors that alert the client to potential problems/repair needs (such as broken heads or stuck valves) in real time
  • Rebate administration, where applicable

The USM solution also helped eliminate run-off and minimize the amount of water sprayed outside of the target area.

Client Background
