Home Furnishings Retailer - Warranty Repair Program

Identifying potential warranty claims before the period expired helped the client avoid unnecessary repairs.

Value Delivered

Our client was frequently performing repairs on critical equipment that was developing issues shortly after their typical one-year warranty period expired. We developed a nationwide program that improved asset visibility at the most crucial time – just before the end of the warranty.

Working together with each store in their portfolio, we completed facility inspections prior to the end of the warranty, noting repairs or potential issues and communicating them to the landlord. As a result of these inspections, our client achieved substantial savings by avoiding unnecessary repair costs.

Client Objectives

The client wanted to control spiraling repair costs for items that should have been covered by a standard one-year warranty.

Solutions

USM performed a visual inspection at each store close to the end of the warranty period. Inspections covered:

  • Grounds/landscaping
  • Roof
  • HVAC units
  • Structural elements
  • Flooring
  • Restrooms
  • Offices
  • Walls

We then identified and cataloged any potential warranty claims and put the landlord on notice before the warranty expired.

Client Background

Our client operates a chain of over 1,100 retail stores offering a wide assortment of domestic merchandise and home furnishings, including food, giftware, health and beauty care items, and infant and toddler merchandise.
