USM takes a planned and strategic approach to our clients’ snow and ice removal. Our team proactively developed and recommended an innovative program to one of our major banking clients. The program included supplementing regular snow removal and salting services by providing ice melt to dissolve ice and snow on sidewalks during cold weather.
The initial program was a success, helping significantly improve customer and employee safety in an efficient and cost-effective manner. As a result, the client expanded the effort by adding ice melt to snow removal and salting services at 2,656 locations nationwide.
Client Objectives
The client wanted to improve the safety of icy, snow-covered sidewalks and other areas outside its branches.
Solutions
USM shipped ice melt in easy-to-use shaker jugs to bank locations nationwide. The fast-acting blend of calcium chloride and magnesium chloride is effective in temperatures as low as -15° Fahrenheit. Each location received two cases, each containing four ice melt shakers. After that, we established a dedicated email and “800” number where branches can re-order the product in case quantities as needed.
Initially, the product was shipped from one central distribution center to all the branches involved. In subsequent years, we’ve minimized shipping costs by shipping the ice melt from distribution centers near each branch, helping significantly reduce the program’s costs.
