Supplier diversity and supporting local businesses are key components of this client’s corporate social responsibility commitment. In support of this commitment, USM implemented a diverse exterior services program for 700+ locations with over 25 million square feet of exterior space.
By leveraging relationships with suppliers and third parties, USM was able to achieve the client’s diversity objective and deliver a centrally managed exterior services program that resulted in:
- 66 different points of contact being consolidated into one key account manager
- 75-percent increase in diversity spending
- Creation of best practices for internal supplier diversity procurement briefings hosted by national suppliers
Client Objectives
The client wanted to centralize the management of their landscaping, exterior services, and snow removal programs, while simultaneously increasing the diversity of their supplier base.
Solutions
We helped expand the diversity of the client’s vendor base by:
- Utilizing both USM and client suppliers who were certified Minority, Women, and Veteran-owned Business Enterprises (MWVBE)
- Identifying current uncertified suppliers who met the MWVBE criteria and mentoring them through the certification process
- Leveraging our membership with the National Minority Supplier Development Council and partnership with the Department of Veteran Affairs to identify additional suppliers
